Another thread is asking what all states' most recognizable landmark is, haven't seen too many responses for Minnesota. Many years ago it may have been the Foshay Tower or the Paul Bunyon Statue. How about the Duluth Aerial Bridge or Split Rock Lighthouse?

Please tell me it isn't a faceless, nondescript mall.

Governor Jesse?

Seriously ... that's a good question. Things like the Jolly Green Giant are probably not that well known, so the Duluth Lift Bridge might be a good choice.

The Cherry on the Spoon and the IDS always bring Minnesota to mind for me, as well as Mary Tyler Moore's statue and the Stone Arch bridge. We do seem to lack one big obvious landmark that the rest of the country would recognize.

Within Minnesota it might be Split Rock Lighthouse, but outside MN, it's probably (gulp!) an aeriel view of the Metrodome from all Vikings broadcasts over the years.

Hate to do this to you, but when you get outside of Minnesota the one thing that stands out the most has to be the Mall of America. It has no equal in the U.S.

Gee, in my state of South Dakota you don't suppose it would be Mr. Rushmore? Duh!!! Nothing else close.

I was going to say the same thing.

I think for MN locals-all of those things would work, for people outside of the MN/WI/IA are, MOA would be it.

the name yes, but all malls look exactly the same, I seriously doubt an exterior shot of MOA would scream Minnesota to anyone other than a concrete beam repairman.

You could have two categories, recognizable by sight and recognizable by name. MOA would qualify for the second but not the first.
