On the top of the Minnesota section of the forum, and on the list of states, it shows Duluth and Minneapolis-St. Paul. Why doesn't it show Rochester? Rochester is much bigger than Duluth, and it is NOT a Twin Cities suburb. Some people think it is, even though Rochester is about 90 minutes from the Twin Cities (from the south side) and it has it's own metro forming around it. I feel that Rochester needs to be added there. It has a city population of around 110,000 and a metro population of around 190,000, and it is growing very quickly.

Because we have very few posters from Rochester and new forums are determined by the number of posts relating to that topic/city.

I was just wondering this. Is it a person that determines whether it is added or is it a computer that determines it? I do see a lot of Rochester topics on the Minnesota forum.

The owners of the site determine which topics will become new pages. They just added about 20 new pages in the past couple months.

Does Rochester actually have suburbs or is the whole area considered Rochester?

I'm under the impression that, while Rochester proper may be a bit larger than Duluth proper, Duluth's metro is significantly larger than Rochester's...by a margin of almost 100,000...?

The reason Duluth has such a high population is due to the size of St. Louis County. Cities like Virginia, Hibbing, and Chisholm are counted as part of the metro, even though those city are an hour or more away. I did the math recently by adding up the populations of cities and township that were in the Duluth-Superior area. The population of the area was 132,820. I did the same thing for the Rochester area. I added the cities that are either right by Rochester, like Byron or Stewartville, and cities about 10 minutes away, but everyone there works in and commutes to Rochester, like Kasson or Pine Island. I got a population of 138,847. So even though Duluth looks like it has 90,000 more people living in its metro, many people actually live over an hour away, and work in cities such as Hibbing (pop. ~17,000) or Virginia (pop. ~10,000).

And by the way, Rochester is not "a bit larger" than the Duluth proper. It is about 20,000+ people larger.
