I am planning to move to Minnesota from Arkansas next month. I am also considering buying a new car in Arkansas and registering it once I move to Minnesota. Anybody know if there are any restrictions on how soon I need to register the car in Minnesota? Also if there are any limits on miles driven before which the car needs to be registered (This is because it is about 900 miles for the move). Does anyone know if I have to pay sales tax for Arkansas with the dealer or with the registration in Minnesota? Anything else that I should keep in mind related to this would be appreciated.

Default I'm no help, but I have the same question.

Hi. Did you ever get an answer to this question somewhere else? I bought a car in KS and will be registering it in Minnesota and I'm researching the same issues.

Laurie

You have 60 days to register a vehicle in Minnesota. Fees are based on age/value of the vehicle. Minimum of $35 of cars 10 years or older. New cars get hit pretty hard, but the fee goes down every year as the car gets older. I think my 2004 F150 was $150 this year.

Taxes - Might want to check how it works out for purchase in both states and make a decision on that. Be assured that one way or another you will pay tax. Just a matter of who gets it, and how much.

Good luck and welcome to the tundra
