Stellar - I really like most all of what you said in your post and think it was great advice, but I really have to disagree with the above statement. This is not a good idea. If you have a record of any kind that will come up on a criminal background check, it's good to tell prospective employers about reform and positive changes you've made in your life since committing/ being convicted of a crime. But this only works if there has been some time between the last offense and when you interview (enough time to make positive changes). But saying you might not pass a drug test will ensure you never actually get sent to take one - drug tests cost employers money, and an employer will not be able to bend the rules if s/he tests positive and hire them because they were honest - hiring anyone that tests positive for drug use is a big liability concern. And having quit less than a month/ two ago isn't exactly a 'shining star' on your resume.

Shiningstar - if you're finding yourself to be unmotivated, not doing what you need to do, laying around, etc. then it's time to quit smoking weed - I'm not saying that the weed necessarily is responsible for this moreso than your own actions, but it's a possibility that you may want to at least experiment with (and if you really want a job, you should have come to the realization that you need to quit smoking weed a long time ago).

Also, I just want to make sure that you realize that probably 95% of cashiering jobs are in retail, right? Cashiering and retail are synonomous - you can hardly have one without the other (and in restaurants, unless you're talking about a cafeteria or something, you would be called a host - a job where you typically get paid little and don't nearly get as much in tips). And are restaurants drug testing now?? That really surprises me...

The best website that I would recommend you use for your job search is www.indeed.com. You could try out www.minnesotaworks.net, and craig's list might have some stuff for you. If you don't have a resume, make one (and if you don't have any work experience, get some by volunteering somewhere).

It's sounds like you need to clear your head, and your body. Although they don't work in every situation, my advice would be to go to your local head shop (steer clear of those glass pipes!), and purchase the best body cleanser/ detoxification treatment that they have - it might help out with your situation.

I dont think I was ever drug tested for any jobs until I started working in the "corporate world"...and even then its been maybe 50% or less of them that bothered.

Point is, I think that the lack of a diploma holds you back far more than the fear of a drug test does/will. I dont smoke pot, but I have plenty of friends and associates that do who are all employed and most do quite well for themselves. Obviously it has not hindered them.

Yeah, but I would also guess that most of your friends also have college educations - like you said, in the professional/ corporate world, there's not a lot of companies that drug test. However, nowadays the high majority of entry level/ lower-skilled positions do perform drug testing.

And I agree with your point about the diploma. And I also have some friends that are very successful and regularly hit the ganja. However, if the OP doesn't have a HS diploma and and can't get a job, is thinking s/he might go back to school to get diploma and quit smoking in order to pass a drug test (which is required for most of the positions s/he is qualified/ applying for) - I think temporarily putting a halt to the smoking is a wise move for the point s/he is at in their life. After successfully getting back into some education and a job, they could decide if they want this to be a part of their life or not, but IMO now isn't a good time for them to be habitual about it - the longer the HS diploma (and postsecondary education) and getting some type of work history are postponed, the more difficult it becomes to get back into the workforce and land a decent job.

That sounds very good! My 19yo is thinking of becoming a CNA on her way to being a nurse.

I posted, well over a month ago, that the Ford Plant was hiring. All the negative people ( you know who you are) tried to deter people. See who knows the correct information. The plant announced they are staying open till the end of 2011. We know it will be longer because we have inside info. just like when I stated the plant was hiring.
