That would be MANKATO STATE UNIVERSITY.

Minnesota State only existed on a teevee show.

I'm being silly, you dork, and also making a tongue-in-cheek ex post facto protest against the renaming of my beloved alma mater. Did you miss the smiley, perchance?

This has been discussed here before. Search City-Data, please.

The school was known as Mankato xxxxx (where xxxxx is replaced by a number of name variations) for over 100 years. Think about that history for a moment. How many Minnesota institutions have been around since 1868?

The folks who run most of the other state universities (Bemidji, St. Cloud) had enough pride in their communities to not dilute the local flavor of their main educational institution by changing its name to meet some fleeting trend. Bemidji State is still Bemidji State. St. Cloud State is still St. Cloud State. Etc.

In my opinion, "Minnesota State University - Mankato" betrayed both its rich history and its community by changing its name, and it lost some of its personality in the process. "Minnesota State" is too sanitized for me...

Concordia College, Moorhead. Will never recover from being known as a "Cobber."

Sorry for not being able to pick up on your "tongue and cheek" sarcasms over text on the interent.

However, people still look at me funny when I call it Minnesota State Mankato.

I think it gives the school credibility...
