I work for the UC system and our UC President is Mark Yudof. He has made some very questionable decisions here and I was curious what experiences staff, faculty, or students had with him running your university.

Thank you!

Sure would be nice if you could learn the correct spelling of the state!

While I'm not University staff or faculty, it's been my impression that Yudof enjoyed a pretty good reputation while here. I was a student during his tenure (and a student employee) and had some personal good Yudof experiences. I'm not sure which specific questionable decisions you're referring to, but given California's massive economic problems it's not surprising that he's been making some controversial calls. While in MN he dealt with some scandals such as a widely-publicized basketball cheating issue. Tuition also went up, which of course from a student perspective I wasn't happy about. Still, the UC system (and the state's funding woes) currently has problems far worse than anything MN has had to face.

Thank you for responding. CA does have a very bad economy and the universities are hurting. What we have found here is that Yudof convinced the Regents that the fiscal emergency was so bad he needed to be granted emergency power to make any decisions he wanted. I am not going to argue that. BUT what we found was while bleating about the extreme fiscal emergency that is causing staff and faculty to have their pay cut and tuition raised again (another 9% over the 7% last year), the UC gave over 6 million in raises, perks, stipends, and new jobs to high ranking executives (those making over 200K a year) between 2/09 and 7/09.

I looked into the University of Texas and there were some issues with his pay in particular (here he is being paid twice what ANY UC President has EVER made). So anyway, my question is while he may have done some good at the university, what was the cost to rank and file staff, faculty, and students?

I think everyone can agree the ecomony stinks and it is going to be hard on everyone. The UC folks just want to see across the board cuts if they need to be made. Not just to those that can least afford it.

Thanks!
Jill
