It's pretty rural. If you are talking bad as in dangerous place to live, there's not much to be concerned about. I live about midway between St Cloud and MPLS. There are lots of homes for sale and prices are good.

There are no towns between the Twin Cities and St. Cloud that are not safe. How about some specifics on what you are looking for, where you work, etc. so we can help more.

I've always liked Buffalo, about 20-25 miles southeast of St. Cloud.

I'm thinking of moving to St. Cloud but do have questions with regards to the employment rate, crime rate, cost of living and racism issues. Can anyone help me out with some answers?

How close do you need to be to St Cloud? When I hear "south of St Cloud area" I expect places north of Buffalo and Elk River. Do you want to be IN St Cloud at all?

I know first hand you can definitely get more house for your money in St Cloud than the cities! The farther out you get from St Cloud the more rural you get up until Becker where it starts picking up a bit and then by Buffalo/Elk River you're getting more activity.

There are not any bad areas between St Cloud and The Twin Cities. Those counties are all towards the top in state income and they have very good schools. There is a ton of housing inventory, so there are deals out there. If you are looking at high end housing, SE St Cloud would be the way to go.

I realize you stated St Cloud or south---------however, just 15 miles NW of St Cloud you come to Avon and then Alabany.

Easy freeway access to St Cloud and both towns are in Albany School District which is a great school.
