An associate degree isn't worth much, unless you are specializing in a trade school sort of curriculum.

The sad thing is that the colleges that offer Associate Degrees don't tell their students that. Instead, they glamorize the Associates Degree, which often just isn't sufficient to get you a good job.

A better course is to pursue trade school certification through your community college. Such as a computer programming or computer hardware program certification. Even then, there is a lot of competition. So you have to determine your own best choice of a career path, realistically considering your abilities and talents. - No one else can do that for you.

We sink or swim depending on the choices we make. Choices that are our personal responsiblity.

I highly recommend the military for those who just aren't ready to make those decisions yet.

I'm studying law after being in the "computer" profession more than 25 years. No one in their right mind would strive for employment in "the computer industry" today - those jobs are so easily outsourced the only value a degree has is if you plan to teach other suckers.. er, students.

Lawyer, doctor, civil engineer, nurse, health technician - those jobs have value simply because they are so difficult to outsource.

If you are studying law, I hope you are doing it for "fun & profit" as the saying goes - since the long standing oversupply of graduates in that field is virtually legendary.

Computer programming is certainly subject to outsourcing - but computer custom built installations are not. Many small companies build computers to order and install them for business clients.
It's a hardware job, and labor intensive, though.

And it's not high paying, since there are so many people entering these fields, but it does provide a living.

However, examining the market and seeing what jobs are most plentiful is always the best way to decide on a career. For example, choosing an unglamorous field that many would pass by, such as accounting, can provide you with a fairly safe and stable career.
