I am starting over in Mississippi. I teach for a living. What are the best communities to live in for little or no money?

There are plenty. Tell us what you can about yourself and what you may be looking for.
Age
What you teach
Will you buy or rent?
Interests?

Default DC to MS

I am a single 45 years old special education teacher w/a JRT. I am divorced after 20 years. I plan to move prior to employment to have some time to settle-in. I am looking to rent for 6 to 12 months. I plan to return to school for a Masters of Arts while I am there. I would like feedback about safe and commuter friendly neighborhoods one can consider.

Safe communities for little or no money describes the entire state. Since you said commutable, try Florence, Pelahatchie, Senatobia, Saucier, Picayune, Poplarvile, Purvis, Booneville, Lucedale, Pontotoc, Eupora...these are all very safe, cheap, and commutable to Jackson, Memphis, Biloxi, Mobile, New Orleans, Hattiesburg, Starkvile, Oxford, and Tupelo.

You can't live for no money, so that's out.

Your experience will count - at least it did with my brother in law who moved here from Texas - but you will be surprised at the difference in salary if you have been teaching in VA/Washington DC.

It doesn't cost all that much to live in Mississippi, but we don't make all that much, either.

As a nurse living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the wages in Ms are as equal to larger cities. In this city I have to pay for parking in which I'm not reimbursed, the price of gas is almost one dollar more, I have to pay to park on the street in front of my house, taxes are cheaper but when you factor in the price of living, and I'm not talking beyond my means, it's economically cheaper to live and work in Mississippi. The best part about living in Mississippi, is that you are centrally located to Ga, Ala, Tx, Fla, and La, Year Around Fun, and warm Hospitality!!!!!!!!

It might help to know where you plan to attend school for the Masters.
