Franklin County, Mississippi (CNN) -- Statistically speaking, Franklin County should be straighter than John Wayne eating Chick-fil-A. The middle-of-nowhere rectangle in southwest Mississippi -- known for its pine forests, hog hunting and an infamous hate crime -- is home to exactly zero same-sex couples, according to an analysis of census data.

In other words: It's a place where gays don't exist.

With all the Southern-bashing going on, this Southern man is trying to follow Neil Young's advice to "keep his head" and "don't forget what your Good Book said".

Well, I heard Mr. Young sing about her
Well, I heard ol' Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow

Just think, one day the cure for some horrible disease might have been found in Franklin County, but instead it was found somewhere else by the gay doctor who felt he/she would be unsafe living in Franklin County.

Reading this, it turns out there are gay people in Franklin County, and some are quite open about it. None of them said they were afraid.

In fact, the writer reports that gay people did not respond to the census because they did not receive a questionnaire, did not understand the questions, or were no co-habitating with another gay at the time. Zero responses = zero gay people, statistically.

Buncha hooey, an attempt to smear Mississippi by a gay activist masquerading as a journalist.

Of course they exist. They're just too scared to come out.

I'm gay and had no problems when I visited Mississippi a few times. The liberal media seems to like to blow things out of proportion. Granted, I'm sure plenty of anti-gay people exist in MS, but it's not likely that you're going to get lynched or beaten, in 2013, especially if you don't make it super obvious that you're gay. There are anti-gay people even in states like NY or CA.

Oh, I think it's likely that a gay person might get beaten. In certain parts of the state. Not everywhere.

But I didn't take the article as a slam against Mississippi, just commentary on how slow our state is to change socially.
