I had never heard of 'Big Fredia'. Apparently, she's famous for her twerking skills. But, according to Rusty Hanna, of 'Mississippi Alcohol Beverage Control', "Sexually orientated adult entertainment is not permitted in a place that sells alcoholic beverages …"

What truly upsets me, is that the state employs someone as a high official, who says "orientated". I have nothing against twerking. It may be the wholesomest exercise that many young Mississippians ever get: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4fKvX_Hoa8 . See? You can even do it, out in the healthful sunshine, on the beach!

But while I hadn't heard of 'Big Fredia', people in England apparently have. That's where I ran across this story: in 'The Guardian' (How a Mississippi bounce concert was shut down over anticipated twerking | US news | The Guardian).

Like Donald Trump, my Husband and I don't drink, and never have. But I can understand why alcoholic beverages are not permitted in places where people are jumping around onstage. Whenever DH has to sit and watch people dancin' and jumpin', he falls asleep. Ninety seconds of ballet leapin', or Irish Foot-stompin', and I've got a six-foot-three, two hundred eighty pound Cajun/Creole/Hebrew bodybuilder slumped-over into my airspace, mussing my coiffure, and bunching-up one shoulder of a dress that cost as much as some people's houses. And then, I'm having to schmooze the glitterati, during 'Intermezzo', looking lopsided.

Before the snoring starts, I have to make like a tarantula (Kayonna Cole allows pet tarantula to bite her hand | Daily Mail Online), and pinch the hell out of his thigh. And I have to repeat the procedure throughout the performance, or until my pinching fingers lose their pep. But I'm pretty sure that if DH were also drunk, then no amount of pinching would help, and it would take an entire paramedic team, to get my slumbering Loup Garou out of the auditorium.

We can go to the Symphony, and (as long as it's something with a rational structure, like Telemann or Bach), he'll contentedly sit and balance chemical formulae with cost/logistics - in his head. If I take him to something 'Narrative', then he forms hostile thoughts, and his sinister ideation results, down the line, in his & Babette's plundering of another competing enterprise. I've learned to skip the Wagner, and stick to Renaissance composers.

'Big Fredia' wonders if this sudden interpretation of the law has not come about, because she's Gay. And I'm sure the regulation was originally enacted as a safeguard against the inflaming of drunken carnal lusts (leading to people "Having that S - E - X!" - which - we Mississippians all grew up knowing - is supposed to happen across the state line, down in "That French Quarter", in New Orleans). But I'm thinking that this regulation may be a good thing. I'm envisioning a nightclub full of Hattiesburg menfolk, lulled into drunken comas, by all that wiggling and bouncing, up on stage. How would you get all those twerk-hypnotized menfolk home, and into bed?

They can try, but they'll never truly shut down Big Fredia.

Big Frieda is definetly not my cup of tea, even as a red-blooded male (give me Thee Doll House in Florida anytime), but this is just wrong. The law says "“You can’t wear a thong. You must keep the cleft of your buttocks covered. And you cannot simulate a sex act,” As far as I can tell the, ummm, cleft of her buttocks are covered. Are they not?

Big Frieda, take it to the supreme court! As Voltaire said: "I disapprove of you shaking the cleft of your buttocks, but I will defend to the death your right to shake it."

Goodness! These impassioned responses led me to do some further research (particularly after my friend Izzi suggested that Big Fredia might not be "female, in the strictest sense"). I see no boohiney clefts in this video. I did get dizzy from all that shakin', though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJBnNziI5wk
