And on the same note, but briefly my Father used to tell us that we would never eat certain luncheon meats if we ever saw how they were prepared. This was after a group of him and some buddies toured a meat packing plant.

And from a man that thoroughly enjoyed 'steak tartar' . Not so yummy to me....

Kettle Beef is shredded beef cooked in a kettle, served on a bun.
Also, don't forget the Sundrop. I have never seen it sold anywhere else but Missouri.

Actually yes! In my family, we have a tradition of a cake called Quick Coffee Cake. It is very dry, I think my grandma got the recipe from her mom, who made it during the depression. We put a piece in a bowl, break it up, then pour milk over it. It really tastes terrible without the milk, way too dry. Everyone who marries into our family must try a piece, and no one ever finds it as delicious as we do! The top has no icing, but a crumb mixture.

As a fairly new Springfield, Mo resident, I have to say Lake Junkie gave a perfect explanation of Cashew Chicken Springfield Style. It is quite a shock to the newcomer. My husband and I couldn't finish our first (and last) CC experience. I hope I don't offend everyone who loves this, but I'll just take my fried chicken "southern" style. If you are curious, there're recipes online which claim to be the authenic version.

There are now Chinese restaurants in town that serve both "Springfield Style" and authentic Cashew Chicken...both are on the menu. Mr. Yen's is one...

A BBQ beef sandwich at many of the local Missouri restaurants are quite good. In the KC metro Zarda BBQ is very good.
