Pretty sure I would flinch driving in that much snow....that would be better suited for iowa or minnesota, haha.

MAybe you would...the vast majority, or at least a good portion of, missouri, gives winters of that description. Snow does fall here, and it's not uncommon for it to be in large amounts when it does.

"If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you may live in Missouri." Don't think that is a common thing to see in Missouri. Come to think of it we have never had 2 feet of snow....in my lifetime. Its quite uncommon to see large amounts of snow. I haven't had more than a dusting in 3 years here.

We had a huge snowstorm 2 years ago that dumped 2 feet of snow on us. And I've lived here almost 30 years to your 3 and seen a lot more. As far as large amounts of snow, half a foot of snow is not that uncommon in most of Missouri and occurs at least once every winter. Much of the state averages around 20 inches of snow per year. That is far more than the south.

The blizzard of 82 still comes up from time to time here. Was anyone else here stranded?

We were at a wedding the night it hit and finally made it home late the next night.

I have actually lived here my WHOLE LIFE. If you will read my post closely I had just said we haven't received more than a dusting in three years. You may get somewhere around 20 inches average per year in certain parts of the state. That still doesn't justify saying its just oh so easy to barrel through 2 feet of snow like it happens everyday. The fact is it doesn't and a two foot snowfall in most parts of the state is a once in a lifetime kind of thing!!!

The point is that Missouri gets enough measurable snow per winter that most of the state can actually be considered to have a winter that is moderate, not mild. So that's where the saying about winter comes from. Missouri gets both cold, snowy winters and harsh, hot and humid summers. There is no debating this.

The bootheel is the only place in Missouri that has a mild winter. I can testify that the winter is much worse in Rolla than it is in the bootheel, mainly due to the wind.

With that being said, it is possible to get single digit temperatures and snow everywhere in this state.
