Last week, Rep. Cody Smith, R-Carthage proposed a cut of $4.5 million in state aid to public libraries.

Rep. Peter Merideth, D-St. Louis, sought to restore that funding. “I don't think it's appropriate for us to defund state aid to public libraries, because we're mad that libraries are suing to question what turned into a book ban passed by this state,” Merideth said.

Sounds like your state might de-fund public libraries because of the wackdoodle book banners!

Wowza!

Won't happen. People are upset about some of the porn that public libraries are offering to kids, but they won't defund. They will more likely put pressure on local libraries.

The legislature is in the business of creating local dragons and then slaying them to garner votes. The libraries have been on their hit list for several years. There was a bill a couple years ago that would potentially send librarians to jail if a kid checked out certain books.

I really think that the Missouri General Assembly should go back to meeting every other year. The legislators have too much time on their hands to grandstand and pander to the voters with nonsense bills. (I worked with the legislature for twenty years and half of what they do is meaningless or simply pandering for votes.)

Many legislators have not read a book in years and are proud of it and think they know what explicit sexual material is. Knowing some of them, I don't doubt it. They consider themselves as some sort of experts on library rules and operations. They think that if you can't read about something or learn about something it doesn't exist.

Most of Missouri is very conservative. So no, they don't like the porn in the children's section of public library. Children will learn about deviant sex when they are old enough to understand it.

Have you actually searched for porn in your local library's children section, or do you just take the word of the culture manipulators? Only 39% of men even visit a library but men have a lot to say about it. Part of the problem is that libraries are de facto daycare centers for some families -- without parental supervision.

Two-thirds of the state population is urban and the kids there might have friends with two dads or two moms and have questions about that. Maybe not -- but smart parents can find resources at the library to help them answer those questions at an age-appropriate level. Some would consider that to be porn. The rural kids more than likely have gotten an eye full out in the barnyard. People running the libraries are adults with kids of their own. Same with the school libraries. They are not trying to corrupt your kids or their own.

Book bans are occurring in Florida.

"FLORIDA BOOK BANS ARE NO HOAX: HERE ARE THE FACTS
March 10, 2023
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis set out Wednesday to “expose the book ban hoax,” claiming that only “pornographic and inappropriate” materials have been removed from Florida classrooms. His claims are false.

Download the fact sheet: Florida Book Ban Facts

DESANTIS CLAIM:
Books are being removed from Florida classrooms and libraries because they are “pornographic, violent or inappropriate.”

FACT:
Books that have been banned in Florida include:

Biographies of Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente that Duval County admitted to removing from shelves for nearly a year, along with 177 other books from a collection of diverse books.
And Tango Makes Three, a picture book about two male penguins raising a chick.
Stella Brings the Family, a picture book about a girl with two dads.
When Wilma Rudolph Played Basketball, pulled from open shelves temporarily after one person complained about it.
Forever, by Judy Blume
Booker Prize winner The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye
All Boys Aren’t Blue, by George M. Johnson
The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood
Dozens of books that include LGBTQ+ themes, protagonists of color, or that touch on race or racism."

The real question is why the legislature doesn't try to bring more higher paying jobs to the state, improve the economy and the like?

It's a reason why many areas of the country run circles around Missouri economically.

Repeating Leftist talking points don't make them any more real.

Some inappropriate books have been removed from school libraries.

Even the list you provided contains several books that are inappropriate for school libraries, and were simply there for LGBTQxyz sexual indoctrination.
