Today was the first white Christmas I can remember since 2000 in the Ozarks. What a treat to wake up to snow!

The gf and I walked over to Manhattan Cafe/Starbucks and had an early lunch at the outside seating along Wydown. I snapped some pics on the way.

FYI, The Moorlands neighborhood is located in the very inner burb of Clayton, MO just steps from the St. Louis City line, Washington University, and roughly 10min drive to downtown StL. This section of the Moorlands is up for nomination to become a national historic district this May 15. This thread covers only 1 of many blocks in the neighborhood and the neighboring Wydown business district. Deserving? More to come...Enjoy!

Clayton is a relatively urban central burb nestled right up against the StL line at Washington University and Forest Park, just 1 subway stop west along the Metrolink blue line. Clayton has a population of 12,000 yet employs 35,000 in it's central business district.

That's all folks... enjoy

Default Closest thing we see around here to a Tornado

I was just going through some of my photo's today and came across a dirt devil. This is not too far from the Nevada/California border. I know it's not a Missouri pic but I couldn't help myself. We see quite a bit of spinning dirt around here.

From my St. Louis trip a couple days ago.

The biggest houses I've ever seen in my life. I hope these aren't any of yall's houses. If they are, I apologize, I just couldn't resist.

This one is 22,000 sq feet...

^ the first home is home to Arnold W. Donald who founded the Merisant Company and was an executive at Monsanto. There is a large banquet facility on the back the couple uses for fundraisers, parties, etc. Donald is one of the most successful african american executives in the country.

The 2nd home is home to Dennis and Judith Jones. Dennis founded Jones Medical Industries.

Here is a clip from a 1997 Business Journal Article
Construction costs were upward of 6.6 million
House is on 4 arcres - aquisition cost 1.1 million

"There are homes and there are HOMES. Dennis and Judith Jones of Jones Medical Industries Inc. are building one of the latter.

The 30.000-square-foot mansion they are constructing in Ladue at an estimated cost of $6.6 million includes nine bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, seven half bathrooms and a six-car garage, according to plans on file at the Ladue building department. There’s a wine cellar and an adjoining wine tasting room to house the Joneses’ 5,000-bottle cache of wine. And that’s just on the two floors above ground.

The basement will have a two-lane bowling alley, a racquetball court (Dennis Jones is an avid racquetball player), and exercise room, a theater, a dancing area, wet and dry saunas and a hot tub. An elevator will connect the three levels of the home.

Outside, there will be a pool and fountain, tennis courts and a wine garden. The façade was designed by architect Scott Krejci, of Gerst/Krejci Architects of St. Louis to resemble a French chateau."

Moorlander, thanks for the pix! One of the buildings in your posts was a residence of my grandmother, I was very small when she moved from there, and I couldnt remember where the building was. I totally recognized it from the pix, will have to go visit Clayton when I come home next time.
