Really, Which building? True story, about 2 years ago an elderly woman and her grand daughter knocked on my door. She lived in my unit back in the day. I gave them the tour and she was floored by the recent reno. We also just found out that my gf's grandmother lived right across the street when she was in her 20's. I believe my building was built in 1928.

Where did you take those pictures? How easy is it to get to?

Markham Spring, Wayne county Missouri. The trail is nice. That picture where I state that the trail is narrow, it is. And it's steep. We took the dogs across one at a time, and we were grabbing at trees and digging into the dirt to pull ourselves up. I don't think we were in any real danger, but it was fun. The loose dirt made it feel like you were going to slip. We also kept close rein on the dogs near the cliffs.

I've heard they're planning to fix it up. I hope so. It's a beautiful trail. You can see the very tip of Clark's Mountain from the top of Markham Spring's hill.

The trail itself is about a mile. There are a lot of paths, though, so it's easy to get lose. There's a pond at the park that people like to fish at. When we were there the camping part was closed off, probably because there was a big log in the road. Some of the camping spaces do have electricity, though. It's a shame the house is being closed off. When we were there we saw four or five guys fishing.

Looks like a good road trip. Did you camp, spend the night or was it a day trip?

It was a day trip. We were there maybe three hours.

It's only a 15 minute drive each way for us. Just something to do on a Saturday afternoon with the dogs.

That is about 2 hours from Lake Saint Louis?

Google Maps says 126 miles, or almost 4 hours. But it varies by what route you take I think. For us it's about 2.5-3 hours to St. Louis itself, but obviously it's farther to go to north St. Louis county. You can go on Google Street View and see what the route will look like. I think there are quite a few two-lane roads.

Markham Spring a nice little park. The icicles are gonna be gone soon, though. They were already cracked while we were there.

Here's a list of Missouri state parks. Markham Spring is not a state park. I think it's run by the Forest Service.

Taum Sauk is where I took my first steps, but the lake/reservoir is not there anymore. It collapsed a few years ago. The only people living there were a ranger in his family. Fortunately, they were not hurt. But there's no water in the reservoir there now. I believe the lower lakes are still open on the weekends.

Elephant Rocks is neat as well. Johnson's Shut-Ins apparently have reopened, but my Dad said they're not quite the same as they were. Apparently the camp ground is father away from the shut-ins than they were before the reservoir collapse. It just recently reopened.

I also spent some time at Lake Wappapello as a kid.

There's quite a bit of camping to be had down here. But I would recommend going to more than just Markham Springs. It's nice, but it's not a whole weekend thing, really.

I also went to Mingo some as a kid.

Certain times of the year (I think in September), they also have Old Greenville Days, with reenactments I think.

I've been to Sam A. Baker state park as well, though it's been a while.
