Here's an article on Jay Nixon's pronunciation.

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but I found it interesting
02/08/2009 - Which is it Governor Jay Nixon: Missour-ah or Missour-ee? - STLtoday.com (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/politics/story/5F64B61D03AAFDBF862575560017602F?OpenDocument - broken link)

I'm so sick of this. Say it however you want to say it. Mizzourah. Mizzouree. Missouree. Missourah. Who cares? The nincompoops who move here and decide they can't change it to their liking call it Misery. Now that pisses me off.

It's always Missouree here.

I think Missouree is the better way, but I don't usually correct anyone.

Missoureeee is becoming more common but originally as the above poster states, it was more of a east/west thing. St. Louis area residents traditionally tended to go with the more French sounding pronounciation of Missoureee and the western half of the state, especially the KC area, used "Missourah". I grew up in the KC region where Missourah was the norm; I live now in south Missouri where most people say Missoureee

The one that totally drives me crazy is the weather channel where they say Mi-ZOR-Ah.

...the California Outreach Division of the Chamber of Commerce! I have been reliably informed that Missouri cottonmouths and tarantulas are ESPECIALLY fond of Californians. Please make note of this!
