Default Mobile will be the first American city to host World Leiusure Orgnization Congress

This could be good news for the city

Quote:
MOBILE, Alabama -- The Mobile Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Mobile mayor’s office this morning will reveal that a "major citywide convention" is coming to Mobile, according to a news release.
The news release invites members of the Mobile media to a news conference scheduled for 9:30 this morning at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center. At the news conference will be Mayor Sam Jones; Leon Maisel, president of the Convention & Visitors Bureau; "special international guests" and other local leader.
The invitation to the news conference does not provide details of what will be announced, only that "this will be the very first time this convention will be held in the United States as Mobile Bay beat out top-notch international destinations in the bid to host this landmark gathering." The invitation referred to the news as a "milestone announcement"
The Press-Register will provide more details as they are announced.

MOBILE, Alabama -- Mobile will host the 2014 Congress of the World Leisure Organization, joining the ranks of internationally known cities like Sao Paulo, Brazil; Cardiff, Wales; and Quebec City, which have hosted the event in years past.
Mobile will be the first U.S. city ever to host the conference, authorities said in a news conference this morning.
Christopher Edginton, secretary general of the organization, said Mobile was selected in part because of this Gulf of Mexico oil spill that crippled tourism along the Gulf Coast.

HHGREGG is coming to the Mobile Festival Centre. They are moving into the former Marshall's. Marshall's as well as Micheal's Arts & Crafts are moving to Springdale Mall in place of the former Barnes & Nobles.

There's a new BBQ restaurant that opened up on Church St. downtown. I forget the name of it but it will have tv's for sports and music. Several new art galleries have opened up or "re-opened" in downtown and Island Thyme restaurant moved from Gov't St. to Dauphin St. downtown. Austal won a big contract that should bring in another 2,000+ staff.

I generally have no desire to go to any of those places out on Airport. Don't get me wrong, I do go, but because I have to. The entire area is ugly and unappealing.

Hey now, I think my area is one of the best looking areas of the city! How can you not like the McGregor/Azalea/Festival Center Area? Don't get all midtown snobbish on us.
