Here is a classic example of why governments at all levels need to learn to curb spending and stop asking for more money. Baldwin County is giving away freebies to encourage tourism...the freebies are for residents of Baldwin County! At the same time Baldwin County is attempting to renew a "temporary" sales tax (sound familiar Mobile County?).

I know I've seen enough gulf coast tourism commercials. What is the point of showing these commercials in OUR OWN AREA?

Here is another example of spending a lot of money Digital Renaissance begins at Baldwin County High School | al.com on computers. I think this could be a good idea but should be done smartly. If money is such an issue, hold off for now. Another option could be to phase in the computer purchases over four years which would spread the costs and create a phased replacement scenario.

The article makes it sound like the state is paying for it but then at the end you read, "...the county system will repay 75 percent of the money using state allocations earmarked for capital or technology improvements."
