My husband and I are considering moving to Fairhope and saw a listing from this builder (Shield) but couldn't find it on a map. Finally found the website for the builder and located it off of Gayfer Ext.

I wanted to find out if anyone knew if this builder built quality construction? Or if anyone knew of other builders who were not the kind to build tract homes all over the country.

We were looking to spend near $200,000 but not much more.

Are you sure you want to build? There are plenty of homes ,some fairly new, going for great prices. There are many foreclosures...in very nice subdivisions, and maybe you need to try that. If you want to build, the going price is about 100 sf, but beware of who you deal with. The track builders are coming up with great product, believe it or not.Again, some better than others. Good luck!

Default No building for us!

No we've done that been there before. But we saw a model home that looked really nice but wondered about how well it was built and wanted to ask about the builder if anyone knew if they were reputable.

We definitely want to see homes already built! All we have to do is sell ours in Atlanta.

We love Baldwin County and especially Fairhope. We met some lovely people there and we've never heard a bad word about Fairhope.

Wish we were there now.

joflo,
If you can locate this model home, I might be able to determine who Shield Construction is. My husband is a realtor, and I see many homes, and know of many builders, and never heard of them.

Colony Builders is all over Baldwin, and one of the current subdivisions is North Station, off of Gayfer ext...so perhaps that might help. The homes there are from $180s to a bit over 200. Another place is Gayfer Plantation Estates, and there are lots still left there, where you can build on, and the neighborhood is well located and homes are affordable.

We also moved here from Atlanta, 6 years ago. We had to get out of that rat race, and love it here. My husband was born ad raised in ATL, so it was harder for him...still, no regrets.

Good luck in selling your home in ATL. If it's well priced it should sell...that's the key everywhere. The market is not as bad as people think, but the prices seem to be back 2003/2004 prices. Again, good luck.
