Ok I have an off the wall question involving clothing. When it is winter do you guys dress in long johns and many other layers to go to work? If you do don't you get too hot in the buildings? Or do you change clothes after getting to work?

I know it is a strange question, but I really want to know

Default Depends

That would depend on how cold the day is, also it may depend on if you work indoors or outdoors. It also depends on if you walk ride a bike or drive to work.

I drive to work, so I wear a coat, gloves, and snow boots (I take my work shoes with me) when I leave the house. Last time I wore long johns as a base layer was when we went hunting.

I wear good shoes with treads, a jacket, regular jeans or trousers, and a hat & gloves. No extra stuff.

In the truck I keep a full insulated Carhart coverall, snow boots, gloves, hat, blanket, food, etc...

I think the last time I wore long johns was back in the 60's hunting at temps of below 20f. Like Sabin I drove to work with nothing more than office clothes, jacket and gloves. Below zero I also wore a cap or hat, boots on snowy days and changed into shoes once arrived at the office.

Today the high was 9 degrees. I wore:

Long johns
Denim shirt and pants
Hoodie
Down vest
Hat
gloves

I'm disabled so can't move fast enough to stay warm, however, I was comfortable today. There was no wind. If there had been, there would have been a couple more hoodies.

I normally wear the expensive $ .99 Jersey, brown cloth gloves until it gets really cold and then it's Elk Skin with wool inner gloves. My hat is a Scotch cap.

If a person can keep hands, head, and feet warm, the rest of the body will follow. I've fed horses when it was below zero and all I wore was a hoodie. But I had on good gloves, muck boots, my Scotch hat, and a really good neckerchief.

Now, when I plow snow on the 4 wheeler, it's a different story. Because I'm setting still and not physically doing anything to stay warm. Then, it's:

Long Johns, denim pants, denim shirt, neckerchief, muck boots, carhart insulated bibs, hoodie, down vest, carhart parka, elkskin gloves with liners, goggles, and Moose Ears. I also have 10 hour hand warmers and foot warmers in place.

Then I'm good to go to about 40 below zero.

Those zip-on ski pants are great for when it's too cold to go without longjohns, but you're going to be in a warm building later and don't want to cook. I wore out two pair of 'em in MT and I still have another pair. Much handier than overalls, they're just like regular pants once you zip up the legs.
