I live up near Edmonton, AB and have been thinking about coming down to Montana to do some shopping during the summer.

Is it comparable to other places in the USA with the shopping?

Are there Outlet stores?

What town would be best to get some good deals?

Uhhhhh No! I don't think Montana is known for it's shopping. If you do find something in Montana, let's keep it a secret and not tell my wife.
I think the closest might be Spokane Washington.

If you're only coming for the shopping, think of it this way: Billings is about a 12 hour drive away from Edmonton. Seattle is 14 hours, 30 minutes (Mapquest). Seattle shopping is fabulous. Flights are probably also slightly longer to Seattle, but may be cheaper than going to Billings or Missoula. Allow yourself the extra time, and go all out. But if you also want to visit Montana, shop in Spokane and spend the rest of your vacation in NW MT.

I live in Butte, Mt and drive a semi truck up to your city of Edmonton every week, to the Safeway Warehouse. I think for shopping that you'se have a much better choice of choices than we have here in Butte for sure. Maybe Great Falls of Missoula and Billings has better but more comparable to what you have up there.

..............Surprised nobody mentioned that there is NO sales tax in Montana.

example: if you buy $700. worth of items in Spokane, you will pay approx $60 dollars sales tax....vs nothing in MT.

If you're shopping in Washington, and come from a state that has no provincial sales tax, like Alberta or Montana, they will waive the tax for you. I live in Edmonton as well, and whenever Im down in Vancouver which is often, I cross over to Bellingham to do some shopping and never pay any tax
