Don't know if this is an opinion question or you're looking for what experts consider the technical answer. In my opinion, it's right after Lewistown.

I always thought of Laurel as the beginning of it on I-90. Otherwise it is pretty much anywhere east of the Rockies. I do think Southwest Montana is a distinctive region as it is a hybrid between the two. Southwest Montana is east of the Divide on I-90 and is on the loop from Butte to Columbus in a region south of Townsend. (Mapquest Butte to Helena and this will make more sense). Bozeman and Helena are in this region but are in classes of their own. This is the area that is around Yellowstone in the "chin" of Montana if you look at it like a face.

Hey,... happy birthday Griz!!

Maybe some day they'll have a sign post there made of stone, a little turn off where the tourists can autograph a book or something.
But that is amazing,..... and I didn't cheat either!
Just trying to see who's awake out there!

"Bob'wire"! Careful you are about to start a range war.

As for "electric fences". These are permitted only to surround the cities of Missoula and Bozeman. They are restricted to low voltage, solar powered, recyclable wire (no petrochemicals). CC&Rs dictate a maximum height of 24 inches so as not to obstruct the "view easement" of other houses in the subdivision.
