Bozeman really popped! My high school had a graduating class of 1500 in 1985. There were 9 or 10 highs schools in county a quarter the size of Gallatin, lol

Oh my goodness, I can't even comprehend a school that size! Our son thinks it's fantastic. Does anyone know the teacher to student ratio?

The article posted earlier in the thread for enrollment is ALL schools in Bozeman School District are at 5,688 students.
That is all the elementaries, middle schools and the high school combined. (article was written Sept 2010)

2009-2010 the total number of students at Bozeman Senior High was
1,820 (9-12 grades together).

The number of teachers last year at the high school was about 112.

This info can be found here:

Thanks for that clarification Happiness is. It is still huge by Australian standards. The teacher student ratio of 16-1 sounds great to me. For most Australian schools it is around 30-1 and even at most private schools it is around 24-1.

The number of teachers and students doesn't exactly give a clear picture of how many students are in an average class.

I asked my son, who graduated from the high school in 2005, how many students he remembered in a class such as his English class. He recalls that the class sizes were about 24 students.

Thanks for that. That is still a pretty good class size in Australia, you rarely get under 30 in a public school here except in very small country towns. Did you/your son find it to be a good school?

Yes, I would say it is a very good school, at least it was six years ago when my son graduated. The students can begin taking university level classes in their Junior (11th) year, and receive university credits for them. Look for "advanced placement" information for those classes.

Gods on stilts, that's a lot of kids... when I graduated from Great Falls HS in 1972, GtF was about 60,000 people and all three years totaled up at just over 1500 students (which I think is a nice size, big enough that there's something for everyone, small enough that it's not overwhelming). Are people having more kids today or what??

Class size back then was always about 30-31 for regular classes, could be smaller for specialty classes (there were only 8 kids in my Latin class). Didn't seem to hurt us any -- GFHS consistently tested in the top 1% in the country, with a near-zero dropout rate.

That number is for the whole school district. I didn't read the article thru. I've seen schools that big, so I figured they might be the only one in the county

Ah, that's the problem, it's the number for ALL the schools in the entire district combined, not just for the high school:

Quote:
In this week's preliminary count, Bozeman's seven elementary schools had 2,616 students, or 117 more than last year.

At the two middle schools, students numbered 1,226, up 57 from last year.

Bozeman High School's enrollment was roughly 1,829, up seven students from last year and up about 50 more than the school district's prediction for the year. If that holds, it would reverse the downward trend of the last few years at the high school.
That's a bit more rational!!

This bit from the article was appealing:
Quote:
Bozeman High had such a high percentage of students taking the rigorous classes, it was ranked on Newsweek magazine's list of the top 1,623 high schools in the nation.
