One of these days I might have to switch to long pants.
This is how we dress a lot here when it's in the 30's. Yesterday I drove my son to school the temp was 31 and I had on a tshirt jeans and flip flops there were several kids in flip flops, shorts and light hoodies on the campus. We wear flip flops here from March till late Nov. it has to get in the lower 20's for me to put my flip flops away...

Default Murdoch's

Recently moved to Helena, or just outside the city limits. Murdoch's had a big Carhartt sale - I saved 25% on various things, and since I never see the 'good' Carhartt stuff come on sale, this was exciting. Costco will sell some Carhartt sweatshirts, maybe some other stuff...but very often it's the lesser quality junk. We bought over $100 worth of C stuff at Murdoch's earlier this month and got a free C stadium blanket. Haven't found another store in Helena with a good, tough selection of winter clothes. If anyone knows of a place - please post it! And don't say Walmart, I rarely shop there.

I like fleece. There are different densities for different temperatures. Patagonia has different levels of capilene layers that are great too. Make sure your boots are properly fitted. Tight boots cut off circulation and your feet will never be warm. The secret though is a flask of scotch for instant warmth.

In your boots? Gotta try that!

My Dad owned a clothing store in Hamilton over 50 years ago. He told me to always buy good shoes and a good mattress , because if you're not in one you're in the other.

The old Norwegian trick: wear ordinary street shoes inside galoshes ... but fill the galoshes with straw. This is how Roald Amundsen's group got to the South Pole and back with all their toes intact, a hundred years ago.

I like a fleece or down vest as part of the layers for outdoors. You can either take off the coat and keep the vest on, or take off the vest and keep the coat on, depending on how cold it is or isn't.

Those "32 degree" brand thin long underwear Costco has right now for cheap are surprisingly good... normally I wear a tshirt, a sweater, and a sweater-vest under my fleece hoodie. With this new long underwear, all I need is that and the tshirt under the fleece hoodie.

The best fleeceware are Izod, warm, comfy, and wear like iron, and you can get 'em stand-up-by-themselves dirty in the barnyard and they come clean in the wash, no stains and all fluffy-like-new. Sam's Club has usually had 'em during the winter.
