I am considering moving to Del Mesa. It is the ~300 home 55+ retirement community to the north of Carmel Valley Rd. in Monterey County in Northern California. I can find absolutely not a word about this community, other than the information on its own website. I would so appreciate it, if anyone who has lived here, or had a friend or relative who did, or who works or worked there, or even who lives in the Hacienda Community across Carmel Valley Rd., and who knows anything at all about Del Mesa, would share their thoughts and describe what it is like. I have visited briefly, but it is very hard to determine much from a quick walk through during an open house or from the realtor. I think the buildings and amenities are very nice, and that is not my area of interest. I am interested to know, about what percentage of the residents live at Del Mesa full time? Do many residents simply use their Carmel property for periodic visits? Are many of the units rented, are the units used for time shares? (I noticed reference to time shares in the community documents, which I can’t recall seeing previously in connection with a retirement community). Is there a sense of community among the residents of Del Mesa? In studying the real estate ads, I have been concerned by the number of homes that were only owned for a relatively short period of time (one to two years) and then put back on the market. The prices were generally the same, so it doesn't appear that these were investments, or for purposes of remodeling and reselling. (Of course, it is a retirement community, and things can happen, that would prohibit a resident from continuing to live in their own home.) Are the residents friendly? Are they generally welcoming to new residents? I see the clubs and activities, are they active, do a reasonable number of residents participate? Are the residents cliquish? Is the staff helpful and a pleasure to interact with? Are the codes enforced pleasantly? This move is a very large decision for me, and I sincerely thank anyone who can provide any answers to my questions or any other information about the Del Mesa community.
