NOTE: (I have NEVER been on a posting like this... don't do IM's or text mes's... so if I don't do this right... please tell me what TO DO

I have been blessed to be retired early in life... and now I am bored and want to CHANGE MY LIFE into one last great new ADVENTURE

Quebec is my dream location to retire...

here is what I like:

1- I feel Canada has far fewer challenges than the USA will have the next 30yrs... am I right/wrong

2- Canada's healthy care system is far superior to the USA

3- Quebec is unique, rare, exotic, fun and verrrry cooooool...

4- Q is close enough to the USA for trips to see family / go on vacation ;-)

5- French is the most beautiful language in the world...

6- mature Quebec women seem incredible

7- I don't mind the cold weather... (family in Wisc and I live in Mountains if Calif to enjoy the snow)

8- few people can sell their real estate these days... so I figured that I could FIND A BROKER / who understands the BENEFITS of real estate EXCHANGE-swap-TRADE ... and I could TRADE 1 or both of my nice debt-free Golf Course homes for a super property in Quebec area:
A- Big House... 300-6000sf ... on a lake would be nice ;-)
B- I'd consider an older-fixer: Camp-Resort-Lodge type property and open a HEALTH and WELLNESS Center, designed to help millions of people globally to: LIVE LONGER - LOOK YOUNGER - PREVENT DISEASE, etc....
C- misc ????

- your agent referal is welcomed.................

9- there must be a hundred people a WEEK who ask about moving to Canada... and what is required.... so please steer me to the website that has a CHECKLIST of all this things that need to be done to be legal, accepted and welcomed into your Community

I am FUN, POSITIVE - pro-active... and my "clean" business would benefit any community by adding JOBS ..

- - and maybe find my french-speaking Canadian SOULMATE

thanks for your time - and anticipated SUGGESTIONS ;-)

Dave

Its called a forum and they exist for just about any interest you can think of, Very addicting.. Welcome

This site will give you the immigration info.

Welcome to Citizenship and Immigration Canada

Selling 2 Golfside houses should get you a nice house on one of the thousands of lakes north of Montreal,.
The French comprise 85% of Quebecs population with English about 8% and immigrants from all over the world comprising another 8%, as you move further from the urban area of Montreal dont assume most of the French people know how to speak English.
Maybe an exploratory trip to Quebec should be considered,to get an idea of life in Quebec.Personally if your French is non existant you may prefer Ontario or New Brunswick as a destination as there are still a lot of French people but they mostly speak English.

If you are looking for a house on a lake, the Eastern Townships of Quebec (L'Estrie) just north of the Vermont border around Sherbrooke has some beautiful lakes and quaint little towns but still close enough to civilization. Check out Lake Mephremegog in peticular. The area is more anglo than most other parts of Quebec but still enough French to know that you are in Quebec. As a resort area it's lesser known than the Laurentians north of Montreal (which you may also want to consider), but still worth looking around. What a cool dream, hope it works out for you!

Hi there - I agree with the previous poster regarding the Eastern Townships area. It's a short drive from Montreal and the Vermont border and offers beautiful northern appalachian scenery (and lots of lakes!) It's also an area where a wellness-type business has a good chance of being successful - there are lots of tourists, folks with vacation homes and small, "artisanal" type businesses (especially food and wine related, etc)

You should definitely read through the link provided for Canadian immigration info - the government is looking to change the criteria for business class immigrants, so keep this in mind. Also bear in mind that Québec has it's own immigration policies.

Please see:

Immigration-Québec - Home Page

You may as well want to check out REALTOR.ca - Welcome to get an idea of what type of properties are available.

Can't comment on whether Québec or Canada is or will be really better off than the States, I think we're all facing some tough challenges -but if it is your dream to move north, than I say go for it!

Bonne chance!
