Closer to downtown, and depending on the neighborhood, there's definitely a more Jewish cultural vibe. It's spread out throughout the city and suburbs, more akin to the NY Jewish vibe in certain areas. There are some neighborhoods like Hampstead, Côte-St-Luc, etc, that are more Jewish than others. Just like St-Leonard (and I guess Jean-Talon) is more Italian. Snowdon in more Russian. Rosemont is more Ukrainian. The list goes on. It's actually quite nice like that - you get a little taste of different ethnicities depending on the neighborhood, but with a unique Montreal flair. And if you're new to the city, it might be comforting to move into a neighborhood that has a high population of people from your culture. But, you must embrace Montreal as a whole! Don't stay in one part of the city. Montreal is a beautiful city. I've lived in several areas of Montreal and its suburbs.
