Hello everyone, I know there have been numerous posts about where to live in Morgantown, but it seems like the town has been rapidly changing so I want to make sure I have up to date information.

I'm moving to Morgantown in August/September for a job at the health sciences center. Coming with me are my wife, 7 month old child, and two dogs. I'm looking for a place that is away from undergrad madness, in town or out of town is fine... so long as my commute to work is around a max of 30 minutes. We've already had a hard time finding houses to rent and have already had some sketch interactions with the management of some of the large apartment complexes.

What do you all recommend? My wife was up in Morgantown looking for a place to live for almost a week and ended up being lied to by Mountain Valley apartments... so now we're empty-handed.

I look forward to your suggestions!

What price range are you seeking? Are you interested in purchasing a home/townhouse or set on renting? Is convenience more important than outdoor amenities?
Did your wife consult with a realtor? Have you read the Sunday edition of the Dominion Post classifieds?

Now is the best time to find a place since many graduate and professional students are graduating and moving on with their lives.

I would recommend Craigslist. It is full of apartments.

You will want to stay away from the downtown area, as it is full of students.

You could try Metro properties as they are the biggest company with rentals in town. Tell them what you want and see if they have anything for you.

I'm trying to stay around $1200/month.... my postdoc salary won't allow much more than that. We're definitely going to rent - my contract is only guaranteed for a year and I don't want to be tied to a house when I have to leave. I'm not sure how I would weigh convenience vs. outdoor amenities. I need a place that will allow 2 dogs and for them to have a place to get excercise, that much is for sure. Other than that, as long as I can get to work within about 30 minutes I'm good.

She didn't talk to a realtor - do you have any you would recommend? We'll also be sure to check out the Dominion Post.

She's been looking through craigslist, but most of the places she's looked at disappear very quickly or have much more gloss than substance... that's why I am here asking the advice of people who will actually know what specific places are like in or around Morgantown.

Thanks again everyone!

You should be able to find a nice place for $1200 per month.

This woman has a good reputation as a realtor in this area...

Morgantown Apartments, Houses, Condos for Rent - Apartments for rent in Morgantown WV

You might also talk with Jo Poulin at KLM Realty (304) 296-1533

If they don't have anything, they should at least be able to point you in the right direction. I have a feeling Barbara Alexander will be able to help you.
