I've noticed over the last few years that many Harley Davidson riders (distinguishable by their LOUD engines) tend to be overweight individuals. Does something about the design make them extra comfortable for those packing a lot of weight?

motorcycle riders tend to be heavy
americans as a whole tend to be heavy 1 in 3 is obese
but as to motorcycles, its gets cold, you eat to stay warm
as to harly's got to have lots of money to buythem now.
so there is extra money for food and then of course if they break down
you got to be large to push them.
also if you have a harley then you feel really macho and dont feel so much like a fat boy
how am i doing?

I'm going to guess that most Harley owners are middle aged men...and many middle aged men are overweight. I would also guess that most men who are really into health and physical fitness, are not inclined to ride motorcycles. There are always exceptions, of course. But my husband is fanatical about keeping in shape, and he has no interest in motorcycles...and my dad has a Harley, and his favorite activities are watching TV and fishing, not the sort of thing that helps a man stay in shape.

It's a image, a over weight guy buys a Harley and he becomes a bad ass, I know a lot of them.

My uncle has a Harley and he isn't overweight.

I guess the reason you see quite a few big Harley riders though is that even a hugely obsese biker can sit on most of their models in relative comfort. In order to ride a sports bike however, the large biker in question would have to heave his unruly gut over the gas tank resulting in his internal organs ending up somewhere around his adam's apple. That's my theory anyway.

I see and deal with thousands of bikers every year through my work, and id say 20% of all riders are over weight, which is probably less than the general population. A bike would be uncomfortable if you were very overweight I think.

Both my uncles and my father have a Harley and none are what you'd consider overweight. They all are big guys but not overweight. Most motorcycle riders tend to be average in weight, at least the ones that I see.
