Mine would be MADAME CURIE from 1943, starring Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon....a great film depicting the genius and dedication of Madame Curie as well as her husband in helping to discover Radioactivity and refining the element Radium....they had to repeatedly process 8 tons of Pitchblende manually to find a miniscule amount of Radium..

What's love got to do with it...the story of Tina Turner, when she was married to Ike Turnerr. All women should watch this movie, especially young girls...to recognize the signs of an abusive relationship, and this movie is an excellent film to watch and discuss with your daughters, friends, about the way this relationship made Tina feel and why she did not leave sonner.

How old do you think the girl should be? (I notice it is rated R.)

16 or 17. Age where they are in relationships, and even if this movie is a bit graphic, it is not inappropriate for girls that age to have a discussion about the signs of an abusive boyfriend..."what signs were before Tina and Ike got married that were red flags in a relationship? "

I used to show this movie to women in prison, and they understood how trapped Tina was. Then, I showed the same film to men in prison, and they percieved that Tina liked the abuse because she stayed in the relationship, they did not even see how controlled she was. It was an interesting perspective on the cycle of abuse.

Great picks....when I first was composing this thread I was astounded by the sheer number of biographic movies we all know and love; yet we all tend to forget that they are based on true life events, usually of just one person. Another one of my favorites(yours too)...I also have quite a few..
