Given the context of time and my age at the time, The Exorcist, when it came out originally scared the life out of me. Nightmares and all.

Hitchcock's "The Birds" has permanently scarred me in that I'm still scared of birds and terrified when they fly close to me.

"The Blair Witch Story" (which I mentioned on another thread) still ranks up there as THE scariest movie I ever saw. I have no idea why but I can remember coming out of the movie theater really shaken and disturbed. I bumped into my landlord on the street about 20 minutes after the movie and he asked if I was alright. According to him, I was just white. I did not get a wink of sleep that night.

And then there was "Jaws"! Have I ever had a carefree swim in the ocean since ... ?!

In my opinion Paranormal Activity was probably one of the most over-rated, worst horror movies of all time... But I guess some people just scare easily...

And hands down the scariest horror film of all time is The Exorcist. It was way ahead of its time, when it was released in 1973 theaters provided barf bags to throw up in to customers watching the film...
I find most people who think PA was scary haven't really seen a lot of the classic horror films.

"The Alamo", directed by and starring John Wayne.
The scary part is that the birdbrain is so highly regarded and admired by millions.

I agree with the others. The Exorcist was and has been the scariest movie of all time. And that Paranormal Activity was not scary but just stupid.

When I was a kid, I would say The Omen was scary.

I'm another one that says Paranormal Activity was not scary. Over hyped and felt like I had to sit through the entire movie just to get to that final "jump" scene.

The Exorcist is far and away the scariest movie. Paranormal Activity not even top 50 scariest. Probably not even top 100 scariest either.

The Exorcist ....... and the 1st time I saw it was in a theater in Washington, DC. on a foggy night alone while on vacation. It was several days before i could fall asleep after that. I knew it was getting a lot of publicity but had no idea what it was about. Since then I have probably seen it 6 or 8 times and it still scares the %$#& out of me and I am not even religious. Right now the hair on my arms is standing up.

The Exorcist, I remember watching this when I was 12 and staying up the whole night because I was scared of getting possessed by the Devil. The white faced creature they showed when they were exorcising Reagan scared me too.

The Omen, creepy. But people have told me I do kind of look like the boy when I wear a black suit and a tie. (We both have dark hair and are pale-ish.)

Nightmare on Elm Street (the first one) the scene in the beginning of the movie where Freddie stretches out his arms to be real long was creepy looking to me.

1408 was scary.

28 Days Later, kind of makes you feel sad and hopeless

The Blair Witch Project, I know it wasn't real, but just imagine being stuck out there in those woods nearby a creepy cult, seeing those wicker stands and screaming for help but no one calls back.
