Not sure about "favorite" or "best," but to me a real stunner is the last 15 minutes of "Lucy (2014)." IMO one of the Top 5 movies of the past decade, definitely Luc Besson's best work. Final eleven minutes are below, in several clips: suggest seeing it from the beginning for proper context...if you like sci fi and exploration of the human condition. Strong underpinnings of "2001: A Space Odyssey," too.
Key word: transcendence.
For some hard to define reason, the film is such a cinematic roller coaster the final c. 15 min fills me with awe, at the visual effects plus exploration of human limitations bringing the viewer back to the Big Bang. Scarlet Johannson's best work to-date, too: in the right role, she can ACT.
Sometimes all of it brings a tear to my eye, the poignancy.
Just a few more...alphabetical, from my collection:
13 Days:"Smell that? (Driving by the Soviet Embassy in WA D.C). "They're burning their documents, they think we're going to war!"
1917: As the Lance Corporal runs laterally through the charging soldiers, trying to deliver the urgent message to STOP the attack...and somehow survives. Stunning cinematography.
Aliens:"Movement! I've got movement!" "Where, man, I can't see ___?" "Uh...can't lock in!" "Hudson, talk to me!!"...as the music and dread rise, aliens uncoiling from the ceiling.
At Close Range: Christopher Walken discussing "coy dogs" with a young, and ultimately doomed, Christopher Penn. Fine actors, a fine moment and eerily lit. "Dad..." BOOM.
The Dark Knight:"How about a magic trick?" Or, actually, any other scene with Heath Ledger's Joker. A well-deserved and unfortunately posthumous Oscar-winning role.
Black Hawk Down: where do I begin? Probably "defending the chopper" before they captured pilot Mike Durant. Twice as poignant because it actually happened: incredible bravery, facing certain death.
Enough for now... Hollywood surely has its moments.
When movie director Jack Woltz wakes up and discovers the bloody decapitated head of his prized thoroughbred horse in his bed.......The Godfather
