I agree Titanic an overated melodrama, Shakespear in love is another and 2001 the pacing in that movie is terrible.

Overrated:
AVATAR (Fern Gully with machine guns)
The French Connection (really kind of boring)
2001: A Space Odyssey (a 30 minute story told over the course of 19 hours)
Once Upon A Time in the West (good movie but not great; not even the best of Leone's Westnerns)
Titanic (40 minutes of story told over the course of 12 hours)
Beaches (watching this movie should qualify as torture)
The Matrix (stupid movie with a morally abhorrent message)
The English Patient (one of those movies that over-educated film snobs love, but actual audiences rightly despise)

Totally deserving all accolades: (or: OP was wrong)
FARGO
Raiders of the Lost Ark
STAR WARS
On the Waterfront
LA Confidential
On the Waterfront
Pulp Fiction

I think Pulp Fiction takes heat because its shocking over the top style is easily imitated, and has been several times by QT himself and others that bite off his style. Now that we've all see so many other examples of this type of filmmaking, the original is cheapened as a result.

Also, probably going to take a lot of flack about this one, but I could not make it through
Avatar. Love Cameron's Titanic, but Avatar lost me. My kid's say I didn't "give it a chance". If I have to give it a chance, it's not a good movie in my opinion.

I also agree with Twilight. I got to see about five minutes with the character Bella's face that never changes expression, and I was done. Why middle aged women my age thought it worth standing in line with their daughter's at the theaters for this tripe is a sad testament to the intelligence and wisdom of mature women. Leave the fluff, bubblegum writing, and Fifty Shades of whatever to the younger girls, gals we're smarter than that...

You are correct. AVATAR is not a good movie.

And I say that as a long-time fan of James Cameron movies. I even liked the first 9 hours or so of TITANIC, but the back 10 hours lost me.

I just couldn't get into it. Ghost, The Color Purple, and War Horse are some of my favorites.

Avatar is just a by the numbers movie where the special effects are the star. I have only seen it once - whereas other Cameron movies like Aliens and Terminator 1&2 I've watched over and over and over and over and...
