I am not a huge fan but I would never say I hate him and most of his movies were pretty entertaining, especially when I was younger. Retarded, childish part of me (90%) enjoyed Wedding Singer, Little Nicky and Happy Gilmore but a slightly more mature part of me considers Anger Management, Funny People and Reign Over Me as his better movies.
I mostly like his movies, but it depends on my mood... If there are such comedies that can rise even the worst state of my mind, these films I can watch only if I already feel good and want to have some fun.
I admit I have paid money to see and rent his movies.
I remember liking "50 First Dates" but I haven't seen it since the first time. I genuinely liked "Big Daddy" as a teenager and "Chuck and Larry" more recently (maybe for the fireman-related humor). I saw several more that had a few good parts but I'm not going out of my way to see them again. I don't know what is more irritating, the movies where he's over-the-top immature or the movies where he's acting serious.
I thought he was well-cast in Anger Management and did a great job with the part. Happy Gilmore is stupid, enjoyable fun. I've watched several of his movies and stayed with them to the end (although wouldn't bother watching again) and others I just had to bail on because they were awful.
I put Carrey and Ferrell in the same category. Way too over the top silly/stupid for most parts, but you might get a gem occasionally.
I enjoy his films, With the exception of Jack and Jill. He has a likeable Charisma to him, And CAN act quite well as evidenced by Punch drunk love.
And he's from Brooklyn!
My Daughter met him while working for a company that does things like the events that stars attend. She was heading a group of hires assigned by the company she worked for at that time. It was a daytime red carpet for a movie he starred in several years ago...I think Waterboy....She said he was so personable, was so nice, thanked everyone there for their hard work. BS'd w/ them. In general a super nice, real person, ...not a snobby bone about him. I always liked him...but liked him even more finding out he is a lot like I assumed he'd be...
I really love majority of his movies. Some of his movies was great because of the role he played like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, and other movies are good because he has great supporting cast (Spade, Schneider, and Kevin James). One of his best movies was Grown Ups and Billy Madison, one of his worst is Spanglish. He is still good and going strong
