I heard good things about this movie and it's finally showing in my area. I plan to watch it this weekend since I love animation, especially Japanese animation. Their stories are typically so un-Disney-like, you know?

Has anyone seen it?

I watched it last weekend. I didn't know much about it but it completely blew me away. Try not to get spoiled.

I have seen it. I find the plot very cliché. It was fun for about 40 minutes, then it just gave me a strong déjà vu of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (another Japanese anime film). The animation is stunning, but that's about it.

Check out The Tale of Princess Kaguya if you want to see some recent Japanese anime film, now that's what I'd call a masterpiece. Wolf Children is amazing too.

Thank you both. I heard about 'Your Name' from NPR, of all places! Supposedly it's a runaway huge hit last year in Asia and it finally arrived in the US this year.

I watched 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' and it was magnificent! If 'Your Name' ends up half as good as that, I will be a happy camper.

DISAGREE!!!

I saw Your Name last weekend.

I am a movie buff and I thought I had seen every concept, every plot anyone could ever come up with.

NOPE!!! This movie was, just, just wow....

I also saw the Girl Who Leapt Through Time. That was just ok.

I liked Wolf Children for the most part, but I didn't care for the ending.

I still haven't seen Princess Kaguya. Working on it though.

To me Your Name is not even remotely close to the brilliance of Princess Kaguya.

Btw The Wind Rises is another recent masterpiece. Absolutely remarkable filmmaking, so honest and refreshing.

I find the part that they had to time jump in order to save the day completely identical.
I was also annoyed by the standard puppy love arc, it was such nuisance and so shallow.

Finally watched it today and I LOVED it! Stunning animation, beautiful story, and emotionally satisfying. I definitely think it's much better than 'Princess Kaguya', especially the emotionally satisfying part. I would even put it right up there with 'Spirited Away', although the latter is more whimsical - which is typical of Ghibli Studio. I wish it wasn't dubbed in English though. Oh well, I still enjoyed it immensely.
