What I found hilarious during the first Top Gun's run in 1986 was how some Navy recruiters set up booths outside and inside theaters showing the movie.
Did anyone actually sign up, and did they actually think they'd be flying jets one day?
I just heard a podcast where two Civil Air Patrol officers described how they were on the pre college track with an eye towards being fighter pilots when Top Gun was released. They said that suddenly the Navy had more potential talent at its door and many, a higher than traditional percentage, did not make that initial cut.
15 years before that with many facing the Hanoi Hilton as the best of the worst case scenario it was relatively easier to get in as aviation recruits
I think I would enjoy this sequel on the BIG screen in the living room.

I've got a dedicated home theater room with an 85-in screen, but Top Gun was the first movie I ever saw in Dolby Stereo, and I remember it vividly. I plan on seeing this one in Dolby Atmos, if the damned thing ever gets released.
Right now it is set for 19 November the Friday before the US Thanksgiving weekend. More than the others I think they were holding out for unrestricted, and mask less theatres in NYC and Los Angeles
