1) JJ Abrams wants to retcon what Johnson did to Rey’s lineage in Last Jedi, by making her a Skywalker. To be fair, that seems to be what Force Awakens was hinting at.
2) Snoke was Palpatine’s apprentice. This is a long shot, but it would explain that character’s disposal in the last movie. He wanted to replace him with a better apprentice (Kylo).
This will definitely NOT be the last Star Wars movie...way too much demand from the fans for the studio to let it go. My guess is, they will keep cranking out films, origins, spin offs, etc for many years to come.
