The success of Set It Off would mean--should mean--that general audiences both male and female would support a good woman's heist caper movie without it "replacing" a "stale male" heist film. So produce some new, good woman's heist caper movies.
Well when it comes to a woman's heist caper movie, with strong female at the helm of it, a modern example would be Widows (2018).

But no one ever talks about this movie. Everyone acts like they need more women thriller movies, and here we have one, and no one talks about it, it seems.

Sean Connery
George Lazenby
Roger Moore
Timothy Dalton
Pierce Brosnan
Daniel Craig

They’ve all played Bond. One quits, they put in another actor as the same character. You don’t seem to grasp that’s it’s not a spy organization movie, it’s a James Bond movie.

She can’t be 007. It won’t work.
You haven't been reading. They have changed the cannon. James Bond is leaving MI6. So no more James Bond period regardless of the actor. Craig's final film will be it for the James Bond character. So bringing in Elba or Cavill won't matter.

She's playing a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT agent in MI6 who just happens to take the old number.

Do you get that?

Yeah I get that. Do you then get it’s not a Bond film at that point? It’s a generic spy movie with a black woman as the lead. Nothing wrong with that but she’s not 007 and it’s not a Bond film, no matter what they say.

Of course it's not a Bond film. Bond is not in it. MI6 can reassign a number if they want.

Right, but if Moneypenny is her assistant, and she gets orders from M and gadgets from Q, then it's taking place in the same universe.

Okay. That still wouldn't make her James Bond. She's another MI6 agent.

The "problem" with Widows is that it was advertised as a heist movie, but it wasn't one. It was, however, an extremely good woman's drama (good enough to be interesting and entertaining to this old man), but it was not a heist movie.

Unfortunately, not enough people were able to appreciate it for what it was once they realized it wasn't what they had been sold.

It will be a "James Bond" film because we know Daniel Craig will still be the primary star, and he will be playing "James Bond."

As far as we know at the moment, Lashana Lynch may carry the 007 code name in the film, but might well turn out to be a short-lived "Bond girl" who gets fridged by the end of the film and prompts James Bond to come out of retirement.

It will be Daniel Craig's last Bond movie, but James Bond as 007 will be back.

Hey, that's okay too. As long as they make it make sense. Coming out of retirement, etc.

Oh okay, I still thought of it as a crime thriller movie nonetheless, cause it has twists and turns in it that you normally see in a crime thriller, and not a drama. Such as you think a person is dead, and they faked it, etc, which is normally done in thrillers.

As for a female M16 agent, one of the reasons we like Bond as fans, is the promiscuity fantasy, and the filmmakers are not going to be okay with a promiscuous hero being female. I'm up for it, but the majority will not be.

And if you don't make the character sexually liberated and promiscuous, then you are taking away a huge ingredient of why people like the James Bond universe!
