Rutger Hauer, the versatile Dutch leading man of the ’70s who went on star in the 1982 “Blade Runner” as Roy Batty, died July 19 at his home in the Netherlands after a short illness. He was 75.
Hauer’s agent, Steve Kenis, confirmed the news and said that Hauer’s funeral was held Wednesday.
He was an amazing actor. I loved him in Ladyhawke and he was amazing in Blade Runner. The ‘Time to die’ scene was the most memorable in the movie. Very sad to hear of his passing.
Before Blade Runner and the other movies that he was famous for in the United States, he was great in Soldier of Orange, about Dutch students resisting the German occupation of the Netherlands during WWII. I don't think it was widely released in the U.S.
I think the only movies I have seen him in is Blade runner (1982) and Nighthawks (1980) and yes they both are quite good....
So sad to lose him...
Those are perhaps his two best-known films, but there are so many more that are waiting for you, like
THE HITCHER
FLESH+BLOOD
ESCAPE FROM SOBIBOR
BLIND FURY
HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN
WANTED: DEAD OR ALIVE
THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND
SOLDIER OF ORANGE
TURKISH DELIGHT
A BREED APART (if you're going to hate on this one, not on my time)
RIP. An awesome actor.
