Okay, here is another KHJ list. Los Angeles' favorite albums and top thirty singles from Sep. 12, 1972.
I sure remember these songs, especially "Saturday in the Park," "Nights in White Satin" and "Listen to the Music."
Wow! I have 13 albums from the '72 chart. Most of those singles appear to be on the soft side of the pop spectrum. Evidently peoples' tastes were changing. It also seems a little odd not to see The Eagles or America represented on either chart after their highly successful debuts of 1971.
I also loved the Disco of the 70's: Ring My Bell, Shake Your Bootie, Flashdance, KC and the Sunshine Band and everything Disco!
Remember Pure Prairie League? I liked them too.

I haven't thought about Smoke From A distant Fire for a long time, askme. I haven't heard it in ages either but it was a pretty good song. To me it sounded kinda southern-rockish. The Sanford-Townsend Band was headed up by Ed Sanford and John Townsend.
The Guess Who were arguably Canada's best-known rock band in the US. I like Stand Tall too, but it was released on a Burton Cummings solo album. Maybe the band was involved. I don't know. I always liked Albert Flasher and Hang On To Your Life both of which you never hear on the radio.
Signs is fantastic and Born To Be Wild is legendary.
I just listened to "Smoke From a Distant Fire" and the lead vocals are reminiscent of a young Daryll Hall. Give it a listen back-to-back with "Rich Girl."
Well done Drover! I did just that and... you are right on! Their voices are interchangeable; plus it was nice to hear Sanford-Townsend again. Especially that slick guitar / sax bridge. Thanx! I was thinking they sounded like Wet Willie. Not sure how I made that connection.
