I was watching Johnny Angel (1945) during TCM's film noir marathon. Hoagy Carmichael plays an interesting fellow named Celestrial O'Brien; though he usually plays a pianist/singer, he played only a short tune during the film. My brain leapt to his recording of this standard that he wrote and recorded:
I have to admit that, when my younger sister and I were little girls back in the Fifties/Sixties, we both had a crush on Hoagy Carmichael! We heard our parents talking about him a lot, and we saw him in movies. This has been one of my favorite songs since back then, and this is the best version I've ever heard.
This song, the Windmills of Your Mind, just popped into my head from out of nowhere. I couldn't remember most of the words, but found myself suddenly humming the tune. And then I found this version by Barbra Streisand.
