I'd have to say "Beat It" is probably the best in terms of how iconic it is.

I think that's the song in "Back to the Future 2" when Marty enters the 1980s cafe (where an electronic menu features President Reagan arguing with Ayatollah Khomeini).

As for my favorite song on the list, it's probably "Africa."

I also agree that my least favorite is "Total Eclipse of the Heart." I remember having MTV on and I fell asleep with that song was on, and it was playing when I woke up. I remember thinking. "Ugh, that's the longest song ever ..."

Quite a few good ones! I went with Billie Jean. I still like that song and watch the video quite often on the weekends.

It's absolutely impossible! I was in my 30s in the 1980s, and I LOVED the music!

I'll just pick at random as I play them in my mind:
"Flashdance (What A Feeling)"- Irene Cara

Irene Cara had such a great streak then! I love her work in "Fame". There's such exhilaration in these songs and in "What a Feeling".

As long as I can visit the past decades, from about 1993 back, I can withstand today's noises.

Beat It is also very good. #2 on the list.

Huh, the two big "continent" songs were from the same year! Much as I love Africa, I have to say Down Under wins here. Lots of good stuff here, the Dexy's, Police, MJ, even Lionel!

Tell Her About It was a number 1? Why?

My two favorite songs from 1983, better than any one on the above list.
