I know that boy bands usually target a certain younger female demographic, but I noticed that for the large part, the musical styles of love songs from boy bands can tend to be very similar if not virtually identical to the kind of love song music that other mainstream Soft AC artists create as well. What, if any, Soft AC musical differences are there between boy bands and more general Soft AC artists? For instance, are they crossover-compatible, with each other? Until recently, I guess I just hadn't really made much of a distinction between the 2 sub-genres tbh, since they seemed almost identical to me in the auditory sense...as they're both types of love songs right?
Just as one basic example, these 2 songs (Westlife/boy band and Jim Brickman/more typical Soft AC) sound very similar both musically and in terms of overall lyrics, IME?
Westlife
Jim Brickman
Another example: these 2 versions of the same Soft AC song, one a re-recording by the original artist, and the other a cover by Westlife and Delta Goodrem?
Cover by Westlife / Delta Goodrem
Contemporary re-recording of original song by Air Supply (the original artist)
