For example, America (My Country, 'tis of Thee) is an American song with lyrics describing the United States. It lifted the melody from the British song God Save the Queen (or King, as the sovereign necessitates).
Crossing the pond the other way, The Clash recorded English Civil War, with lyrics imagining an intrastate conflict in the UK in the late 1970s. They took the melody from the American song When Johnny Comes Marching Home.

This is a slightly different case. Here, the altering of the lyrics is not to change the story being told but to maintain the proper number of syllables. Since the German word for 'balloon' has three syllables to two in English, a one-syllable adjective was added to the English version to maintain the meter of the original.
The battalion is formed up for the last time
Veterans are dismissed, rabbits (the new ones) are roaring (2x)
When will come that day when I will be back home
When will come that day when I will be dismissed
Petty officer won't be shouting anymore
Rota step in line, rota shun, rota abandon
No more disorderly, arrests and step in line
There are only young chicks, countless girlfriends
And here comes the coded telegram and I get down on my knees
and pray to all the gods - dismissal! (2x)
Outside the portal a white car is waiting me
on the back seat - girlfriend without skirt
On the portal there are many officers
Veterans are dismissed and don't give a honor (to them)
And here comes the coded telegram and I get down on my knees
and pray to all the gods - dismissal! (2x)
We won't be waked with electorate
Perform Tunja-200, I am dismissed
Our feet won't be freezing anymore
They will be still warm between two thighs
When will come that day when I will be back home
When will come that day when I will be dismissed
No more disorderly, arrests and step in line
There are only young chicks, countless girlfriends
And here comes the coded telegram and I get down on my knees
and pray to all the gods - dismissal! (2x)

I swear those lyrics made me laugh now, for reasons only god knows
it's a very good thing for many people in the world to know that Christina Aguillera recorded a song in English using a melody from a song originally in French, and that's not unusual in the music industry, worldwide
