I'm glad you posted Dusty Springfield's original version and not Aretha's. I think a lot of people would have out of deference to The Queen of Soul. I understand Aretha was offered it first but out of modesty and religion turned it down, and then after it hit with Springfield decided to have a go. And Dusty was gracious enough to fawn over her version, but honestly, Aretha's phrasing does nothing for the song and in fact is a distraction IMO.
Anyway, I've posted this one once before on another thread but I dig it way too much!
You are a Grassroots fan too? I only have 3 music artists signatures that I care about. One is from Rob Grill who signed an 8 x 11 band photo for me saying "To ________ from the Grassroots" (Like most of you dont know my name already) He also signed the green "best of" CD for me. The photo did hang on my wall next to my Reba McEntire memorabilia till I moved last year.
I last seen the Grassroots in Las Vegas in 2005. It was an intimate show with no bleacher type row seats. It was all round table seating with 4 seats per table. We of course had the front table.
In that show the band started playing "Dont pull your love out" by Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds. Everyone was mumbling why? Dont they have enough of their own hits? Then after the song Rob told us the story. Rob Grill wrote that great song and the producers refused to like it. Rob sold the rights to the song to Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds who we all know made a mega hit from it.
