Well, he did sing a lot of tunes that other people wrote. One of the more notable ones was by Mac Davis, entitled, "In The Ghetto". Another that comes to mind was Eddie Rabbitt, who was a prolific songwriter before scoring as a country singer in his own right. He was the guy who penned "Kentucky Rain", which Elvis recorded around '69.
