I've been thinking a lot about this stuff lately. The Hydra Head label was founded by the frontman of ISIS, Aaron Turner back in the 90s. At the time it specialized in undefinable heavy music that was made mostly by bands who would probably be called hardcore. The music started being called "metalcore" because a lot of bands really did merge the 2 styles (this was long before the eyeliner-wearing/Hot Topic bands who are known as metalcore today).
Anyway, the label has remained very interesting and, really, it is partially responsible for keeping me interested in metal.

The label has also released music by the Japanese experimental metal band, Boris, who plays with a bunch of different metal styles. Here is one of their more tame songs...
