Derek was no stranger to the band , he had been playing with them since the age of 11. His uncle Butch was the drummer for the original band. I knew he was related to one of them but could not recall which. I just looked on Wiki to verify . He plays the blues fest here each year for the last few years. He is amazing.

Myself, I can see that Buddy Holly could have continued to have a long, active career in both performing and composing; maybe going into production too.
Berenice-Great thread! Nice way to pay homage to some of our favorite musicians who were gone way to early. Saucy

Many of you here know I marvel at the wisdom found in The Gospel According to John. Above everyone else I would love to see what he could have done had things turned out differently. What a brilliant man he was. He wrote and played much of my favorite music. He had a "rapier wit." I think he would have continued to do what he loved...writing and playing music, drawing, writing books, acting, etc. And I'm sure he would have continued to stand up against injustice and man's inhumanity to his fellow man. If he were here today, he would probably be in Haiti. I can imagine him(and George if he were here too) organizing a big benefit to help their cause. Imagine who might be on the roster. Maybe Dylan would even show up. John would also probably be writing political satire, and drawing political cartoons and caricatures of politicians and celebrities. I can also imagine him acting in Monty Python-type comedy(think cowardly knights and sympathetic pirates). Wish he was still here!

Although I'm not sure what they would be doing, other than playing, writing, and singing great music, I would also like to have experienced more of what Jimi had to offer, ditto Stevie Ray Vaughan, Nilsson, Brian Jones, and Bonzo. Those are the biggies that come to my mind.

P.S. Yes, I know some of them did drugs and/or drank too much. So what! Nobody's perfect.
