Music stars who died young - if they were still alive would we still revere them and how would their careers have progressed (or petered out)?
Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke, Mark Bolan - anyone else?
Myself, I can see that Buddy Holly could have continued to have a long, active career in both performing and composing; maybe going into production too.

Great Post!

I wish Marvin Gaye was still alive. He had some awesome songs.

Of the ones you mentioned, I like Hendrix the most. He would have continued to grow, it's part of what made him great. But to me John Lennon was one of the greatest losses to music and to the human race. He may have had more fallow periods, but his spirit was truly exploratory and I believe he would have enlightened and entertained us in one art form or another for many years...

Excellent points, I can see he might have developed his writing; he had a wicked sense of humour

He also had a good mind, a big heart and a remarkable gift for words.

Buddy Holly, Kurt Cobain, Jeff Buckley, and Karen Carpenter (can't help it, I loved her) would have gone far.

I think Karen Carpenter would have conquered her eating disorder (anorexia) and be an advocate for the prevention of eating disorders.

Buddy Holly would be a music producer and sing once in a while in Las Vegas or something.

Janis Joplin would kick her drug addiction and be a more mellower singer these days.

Jim Morrison would quit the business and be a father and husband. Just live anonymously and be free from drugs too. He would probably be a Born-Again Christian (or get into some other religion).

Kurt Cobain would write some really great songs these days.

Jimi Hendrix would be a music producer for other musicians.

Buddy Holly has been my all time favorite artist since I was a kid. Before his death, he was really working 'behind the scenes' at the studio developing new ways of recording, so I can't help but think that he would have come up with many new and different ways to develop music.

He was far beyond his time.

Stevie Ray Vaughn. He had just gotten clean and sober and would have continued to make amazing music. We'd definitely have more young people wanting to pick up a guitar because of how he played.
